Guided Study Hall

When learning French -or any foreign language or new skill- sometimes you just want to practice what you already know. Or maybe you just have a few questions for a teacher! For new and returning students alike, Guided Study Groups can be just the thing to work through some of those hang ups. Whether for individuals or groups, in-person or Zoom, FLSO/Betty's Bazaar offers a menu of options for all skill levels. YOU choose the topic! Current/returning students, please reserve a time via text message.

Rates (Max of 30 minutes for Zoom)

Individual: $25 for 30 minutes || $45 for 60 minutes
Groups of 2-4: $15 per student for 30 minutes || $25 per student for 60 minutes
Groups of 5+: $10 per student for 30 minutes || $15 per student for 60 minutes

Packets

Packets are original materials that have been used in past classes on various French cultural aspects, with an emphasis on travel and tourism in France. To order, please reference your selection by number. All Packets are delivered digitally.

P1 - Art History...Oversimplified ($15)

"The non-art historian’s guide to knowing just enough to make it seem like you have a clue what you’re talking about at dinner parties." This packet includes vocabulary, basic chronology, definitions of technical terms, and a brief history of art in France that spans pre-history through Impressionism. In English with French terms and vocabulary.

P2 - Museum Guide to Le Louvre ($30)

This guide is designed to give museum visitors a starting point to the vast collections held within an otherwise rather overwhelming space. This guide does not attempt the impossible task of covering the entire museum, instead highlighting works from Northern and Southern Europe, as well as the Ancient Mediterranean. In English.

P3 - Visitons Le Louvre ($15)

This 5-part packet (Introduction and Parts 1-4) includes presentation slides (with images) that accompany Packet #2. In English.

P4 - Châteaux, Églises, et Cathédrales ($40 for the set OR $15/each)

Presentation slides (with images) on France's famous castles, churches, and cathedrals. Includes enrichment activities for each category. This packet can be purchased as a set or in 3 separate parts (1.Châteaux 2.Églises 3.Cathédrales). In French.

P5 - The Bayeux Tapestry and the Battle of Hastings ($20)

Overview of the history of the Battle of Hastings with William the Conqueror, an historic event that forever changed Europe and the English language itself. Photography is not permitted in the Museum of the Bayeux Tapestry, so get acquainted with the images before you visit! Includes 2 packets: presentation slides and accompanying notes. In English with French terms and vocabulary.

Children's Lesson Plans

Children's Lesson Plans were created by an experienced teacher. Although CLP are designed for kids ages 3-7, they can be adapted for other ages. Materials are not included, but similar items may be substituted based on availability in your area. To order, please reference your selection by number. All CLP are delivered digitally.

CLP1 - Australia Unit ($10)

Journey to the Land of Oz with your child! Travel Highway Number One to Australia's major cities, landmarks, the Great Barrier Reef, and meet the animals of the Outback!

CLP2 - Stonehenge: History Study ($10)

Travel back in time to learn about the history -and mystery!- of Stonehenge. Read great books, peruse vivid images, and follow the guided discussion to help your little one develop critical thinking skills based on what s/he has learned. When you're done, build your own Stonehenge using a pre-made set (not included) or your own blocks/Legos!

CLP3 - Viking Unit ($10)

Channel your inner beserker by learning about traditional Viking life! This unit explores how an old world culture lived and survived, bringing it to life with fun crafts and tasty foods to try. Play along with your child and become a Viking!

CLP4 - Christmas Around the World Unit ($25)

Celebrate 24 days of Christmas in countries and cultures all around the world! Print off the included Christmas Passport to make your own booklet...then fill it with stamps for every "stop" you make. Learn new customs, sing lots of carols, and taste holiday treats from six different continents.

Thumb Kitties (Chatons Pouce) make great gifts! These tiny kitties can be used in a variety of ways: toys, a discreet sensory item for anxiety, a way to commemorate your kitty who has passed, or even as a cat toy for your furry friend! Available in a variety of felt and thread colors.

Limited customization options available: colors, size, tail, filling (standard fiber fill vs. catnip). Additional fees may apply for customization.

Warning: Thumb Kitties present a choking hazard for small children. Betty's Bazaar recommends customizing the size if you wish to purchase a kitty for a little one in your life. We suggest the Palm Kitty: larger than the Thumb Kitty, but just as much fun!
